Coroner Bio
Cherokee County Coroner Sally Sims brings over 30 years of extensive experience in trauma medicine, flight nursing, and forensic investigation to her elected position. Her clinical experience began at Grady Hospital’s Emergency Department and later expanded to critical care at Emory Hospital, as well as serving as a flight nurse with Rescue Air One, where she transported critically injured patients to Level I trauma centers across the Southeast.
She is an Emory University graduate and holds a master’s degree in Forensics from Fitchburg University, complemented by extensive field experience as a Deputy Coroner in both Forsyth and Cherokee counties. She is certified by the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators and is also a certified At-Risk Adult Crime Specialist. Coroner Sims leads her office with a strong commitment to investigative excellence, interagency collaboration, and the pursuit of international accreditation standards.
In addition to her duties as Coroner, she continues to work clinically as a Charge Nurse at a Level II trauma center, ensuring her medical expertise remains current and directly supports the accuracy and effectiveness of death investigations conducted in partnership with law enforcement.
